Rain, rain, go away

We’ve had epic amounts of rain around here lately, so much that I’ve been threatening to tear up the swingset and build an ark in the back yard. With all the rain, it’s not like anyone can get out there and play on it, after all.

The two most annoying things about epic amounts of rain: I can’t get out there and plant my tomatoes, and I have to keep my active young son cooped up inside. And the third is that I hate the feeling of wet jeans bagging around my ankles. And the fourth most annoying thing is that I really shouldn’t be complaining about rain at all, given that we had a terrible drought here just two years ago. I should be filled with glee that we’re actually getting a lot of rain this year.

But I’m just feeling waterlogged. And even though I don’t think swine flu is going to become what it’s been hyped to be, I still feel a little guilty taking my child to all the indoor play places on rainy days. They’re germ factories even on the best days. But another local school has closed, and I’ve heard parents talking about keeping their kids home from school, just in case. While I’m usually a little laissez faire about germs, I’ve been dutiful about getting out the hand sanitizer this time. I’m just hoping that the swine flu goes away soon, along with (some of) the rain.

I’m happy that the drought here in Georgia seems to be coming to a close, but like you I’m ready to get outside and cultivate the soil and plant some veggies. Maybe this weekend…
